The Law of Process Part 1

The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership

Many times, I want a quick fix. ” I want it now”, I often say to my self , and then get aggravated that it is not happening as and when I want it to happen. Many of my friends have told me that I usually want it my way, in my time or never!!! I can say that it is true most of the time. And lately, I feel like it’s become a hindrance to my progress – because, if it doesn’t happen how and when I want it to, I assume it is not meant to happen, or it is not meant for me, and then let it go. Moreover, my inner self has not yet grasped the power of process in achieving my dreams. I need to master the game behind process and apply it to my journey, – Ignorance is no excuse.

As I read the book “The 21 irrefutable laws of leadership” by John C. Maxwell, I was fascinated by the law of process and how much it contributes to making us successful leaders. It states that, “Leadership Develops Daily, Not in a Day“. This simply means that there is a sort of process or transformation that needs to happen for us to get to the point of being a great leader.; or of being successful in achieving our dreams.

But what is process?

According to the Cambridge dictionary, ” process is a series of  actions that you take in order to achieve a result.

Some of the synonyms of the word process are; procedure, undertaking and proceeding, and others. This means that we are somewhere and we want to get somewhere else, and there are certain things that need to happen before we can reach wherever we want to , from where we are now. This definitely requires a starting point, time and an end point.

This caused me to wonder, ” why do I need a process when I serve a  mighty God who simply speaks and it is so? Does God even know about process? Does he care about it, this Almighty God? Wouldn’t I be a woman of little faith to wait for anything to happen to and for me, while the God I serve is the Author and finisher of my faith?” My only logical way to answer these scriptures is to check His word – The Bible. I then decided to dig the scriptures for insight, looking for possibilities of the law of process. I did not focus on leadership alone, but considered the law of process in general.

Well, amazingly, the first chapter in the bible talks of the process of creation. Much as God spoke and it was so, he followed the law of process. He did not make the world in one day. He had stages of creation according to Genesis 1 and 2. It was a process, one day at a time. Moreover, he had reason for creating each of the things He created in the order that He created them. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, light, the animals, birds, fish and people, oceans and seas in seven days – the seventh day was a day of rest. The image below shows us the process of Gods creation. Even with each stage of the creation process, there was a process to complete that particular stage.

Moreover, much as God created us in a day, scripture shows how he is still doing a work in us, to transform us into his likeness. It is not instant, it is a process.  Being transformed is a process of renewing ones mind, which happens daily.  Here are some scriptures that show us the fact that God is still doing a great work in us. Its a process.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. – Romans 12:2 NKJV.

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. – II Corinthians 3:18 NKJV

The fact that we are still being transformed, can only mean that creation is a process, not a single event that is instant.  Therefore, God understands the law of process, and has and still is implementing it in our lives daily if we can let him.

What is transformation however? Are there any other scriptures in the bible that we can study to find out how the law of process unveils? How about in our world today, can we identify some of the things and ways in which the law of process unveils? Finally, what does this mean for us in our self development journeys? What is the relationship between our faith and the law of process?

This and more will be discussed in my next blogs. Stay tuned for Part 2 and be blessed.
